The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Continuum of Care (CoC) announces two new members to its CoC Governing Board. The two newly elected Board members are Elizabeth Trotman (Philanthropic partner working to eliminate homelessness) and Karen Pelletier (Mecklenburg County Community Support Services Ex-Officio seat). We are excited to have Elizabeth and Karen on the Board and look forward to their knowledge and expertise. Please see below more information about each Governing Board member.
Elected Seat: Philanthropic Partner Active in Ending Homelessness
Elizabeth Trotman is the Senior Vice President of Civic Leadership Programs and Initiatives at Foundation For The Carolinas, where she is responsible for assisting with civic leadership initiative strategy development, integration, and expansion. Through the Robinson Center For Civic Leadership, she works to convene partners and direct funding to address our region’s greatest needs and opportunities.
A native of Columbus, Ohio she has served in the nonprofit sector for more than 20 years, impacting the community through organizations like United Way of Central Ohio, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Charlotte Family Housing, The Charlotte Resilience Project, and Novant Health.
Elizabeth has led several community initiatives aimed at improving the lives of children, women, and families by focusing on key areas including but not limited to, education, health and wellness, homelessness, mental health and resilience, entrepreneurship, and place-based neighborhood development. She has delivered several workshops, trainings and presentations on key community issues and needs. Elizabeth has a degree in communication (public relations) from Otterbein University and currently serves on the UNC Charlotte’s Women + Girls Research Alliance Advisory Board and the Crosland Foundation Board. She resides in Pineville, North Carolina with her husband Anthony, and is a bonus mom to one daughter, Camille.
Ex-Officio Seat: Mecklenburg County Community Support Services Director or Senior Level Designee
Karen Pelletier is the Director of Housing and Homeless Services with Mecklenburg County Community Support Services. In this position, she is responsible for coordinating resources, creating and enhancing partnerships, and ensuring best practice implementation of Mecklenburg County-funded housing and homeless programs. She provided direct services to vulnerable families involved with the child welfare system for many years prior. Her volunteer experience with the American Red Cross in New Orleans after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita called her to improving system-level work. She is passionate about working as an anti-racist and is committed to addressing disparity.
Pelletier earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Social Work from the University of South Carolina at Columbia. (Go Gamecocks!)
Pelletier, a native Detroiter, is an avid Detroit Lions. Her favorite things to do include enjoying the outdoors with her son, Luke, and their dog, Abby.

Branden Lewis is a Management Analyst for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Continuum of Care (CoC). Branden serves as the community staff lead for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg CoC. Branden’s role is to coordinate program activities outlined in the HUD CoC Program Interim Rule with a primary focus on the HUD COC Notice of Funding Availability, ESG Grant Application process and CoC Governance.
